Guy Sebastian reveals emotional ‘trigger’ in his personal life

He’s known as one of Australia’s most popular musicians, but how much can we say we really know about Guy SebastianFrom his emotional ballads to his pop hits, Sebastian may give away more about his life than we realise, and he reveals it all in a new documentary, Guy Sebastian: The Man The Music, about his life, family and career.

Sebastian spoke to 9Entertainment about the documentary — which premieres at 9.10pm on Nine tonight — and how his personal life influences his songwriting process, as well as the horrible nerves he gets before he walks onto stage for the first performance of a tour.

“Everything else I’ve done, even the big gigs like Eurovision — and I’ve done some pretty big gigs as far as audience numbers go — but the only time I’ve ever really crapped myself is the first show,” said Sebastian, who mentors up-and-coming artists as a Coach on The Voice.

“I desperately want every show to be better than the last. You know when you go to the theatre band think ‘Oh my God that show was insane’, and then you think the next one isn’t as good? I put this pressure on myself because I don’t want anyone to feel that when they come to a tour,” he added.

Sebastian, 38, also addressed the bizarre reality of watching back a documentary about his life.

“It was tough for me to watch, because it’s like watching your life flash before your eyes. There are certain trigger points for me that made me really emotional,” he said. “My kids [Hudson and Archie] of course, I’m always so emotional about my kids.”
